American Racing Equipment (ARE), Inc. has been around for over 50 years, and since then their customized wheels have been the gold standard for aftermarket performance racing wheels for armature car enthusiasts and professional racers. In November of 2006, ARE announced a partnership with NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. to design a line of American Racing wheels for trucks, SUVs and other performance automobiles. The new line of American Racing wheels bearing Earnhardt Jr.'s name is just one element of ARE's legacy of innovation in design and marketing.

It is no accident that American Racing wheels have been in demand for over 50 years. The initial concept was born from a desire for high strength-to-weight ratio in racing wheels, initially shared by Romeo Palimides and J.O. Ellison in 1954. The drag racing innovator and machine shop owner, respectively, joined with engineer Tom Griffith, and in 1956, American Racing wheels became a reality. Their concept for performance custom racing wheels quickly became a phenomenon, evidenced by their products' appearances in the realm of pop culture.

Anyone who will admit to watching “The Dukes of Hazzard” has been exposed to American Racing wheels. Even before the backwoods television series, American Racing wheels have appeared on album covers and in major motion pictures. A prime example of American Racing wheels in pop culture is the torque thrust line of custom wheels. This line was designed to reduce wheel weight and promote brake cooling, and they appeared on two Beach Boys albums. More recently, American Racing wheels were featured in the film, “2 Fast 2 Furious,” among others. While ARE presently offers a line of their vintage American Racing wheels, authentic torque thrust wheels are highly collectible.

American Racing wheels look good enough to appear on album covers, however it is their unrivaled performance that has kept them in demand. Custom wheels from ARE's professional line were employed in breaking two quarter mile speed records in 2005. DuPont recently partnered with ARE to develop Teflon coated American Racing wheels. Commitment to design and innovation continues to be the defining traits of American Racing wheels, and the Dale Earnhardt Jr. line is no exception. This line of American Racing wheels is presently available in seven models, among which, the cyclone is available in multiple finishes. These American Racing wheels will, no doubt, bring enhanced performance and beauty to truck wheels, just as the Torque Thrust line did for the street racers of the 1960s.

Designed as custom truck wheels for aftermarket purchase by consumers, Jr.'s line of American Racing wheels will also accommodate SUVs, late model muscle cars and performance passenger vehicles. Though this line has yet to appear in any movies, it has been around for close to a year. With past performance as an indicator, Jr's line of American Racing wheels will certainly be a hit.
